Correction of Certificates of Registration

To correct information of a certificate, a determinate order by a Court of First instance is necessary (normally). It can be made by order of the district attorney , when there are mistakes in error, that do not refer to the place, day, month, or year of the event. For spelling or phonetic errors, correction can be made by the proper registrar.

Proper authority:

  • Registrar's office.
  • –Court of First instance or district attorney (or justice of the peace, where there is no attorney) of the area of the registrar.

Supportive papers:

  • Copy of the incorrect certificate.
  • Papers with the correct information.
  • Certificate of the determinate order of the Court of First instance.

In case of correction by the attorney (or justice of peace):

  • Copy of the incorrect certificate.
  • Papers or evidence to prove the correct information.

Procedure:

  • Submission of the petition to the Court of First instance.
  • Decision.
