Birth Registration

Proper Service :

The registrar of the birthplace. Each municipality or province makes up a different registry region.If the child is delivered during travel by train, car or aeroplane, the proper authority is the registrar of the disembarkation point.If the child is born on sail, the Registration is made to the captain. After the Registration, the captain issues a certification to issue the birth certificate.Duty of registrar for the Greeks abroad falls upon the head of the Greek consular authority.

Supportive papers :

Certificate of a doctor or midwife or obstetrician. When unable to issue such a certificate, the Registration is done with a sworn statement of the beholden. The person to declare the fact must have an identification card. For foreigners: residence permit and passport.

Procedure:

Under the obligation of declaring the birth are:

• The father of the child.
• The doctor.
• The midwife or the obstetrician.
• Each person present on the delivery of the child.
  
  The statement can also be made by the mother of the child or by her representative with a special order (letter of procuration). If the child is born in a hospital, clinic, prison or another institution, the manager of the institution is responsible for the registration.

  Deadline:

  Within ten (10) days after the birth.
